Commanding General of First Army supports Woodson Medal of Honor

‘I just hope it will finally be fixed.’

Lt. General Thomas S. James Jr., commanding general of the U.S. First Army, is supporting a posthumous Medal of Honor for forgotten D-Day hero Waverly Woodson.

In a powerful column in the Washington Post, James writes:

“The Army has changed much since 1944… Yet the Army as far to go, and finally acknowledging Woodson’s valor would speak volumes to the diverse ranks of men and women who wear the uniform today.

“This spring I visited Woodson’s grave at Arlington National Cemetery, and placed our shared First Army patch on its stark white headstone. My command sergeant major… touched two words etched in the stone: ‘That’s wrong,’ he said.

“I said: ‘I just hope it will finally be fixed.’”
